Guardian Ranks are a structured progression system in Destiny 2 that track a player’s engagement across various gameplay systems, serving as a complement to Power Level. While Power Level reflects a player’s gear strength, Guardian Ranks measure their familiarity with core mechanics, activities, and seasonal content.
Ranks 1–6 act as the onboarding path. These ranks guide new players through tutorials and basic objectives, introducing systems like loadouts, weapon crafting, subclass customization, and portal playlists.
Ranks 7–11 focus on endgame progression. These require completing more advanced challenges such high-level portal activities. Objectives at these ranks often require Champion kills, build crafting, and multi-step Triumphs.
Players rank up by completing Rank Objectives, which are predefined tasks tied to each level. These include activity completions, seasonal challenges, and Commendations (a social recognition system from other players). Guardian Ranks are publicly visible and are intended to signal a player’s game knowledge and activity level. Higher ranks often indicate players who are more experienced and potentially helpful in guiding others.
